Syncing Settings Automatically Between 2 Computers

I'm working on two Windows 7 Machines and am wondering if anyone has any experience or advice on automatically syncing my IDE settings. I know you can export settings, but I am wondering if there is any easier way which wouldn't require exporting / importing every time. Perhaps with symlinks and Dropbox?

Hi Christian,

  • Dropbox should work fine (quite a few people do use it and have no complains -- just make sure that you are using IDE on one PC at a time). I have tried this myself long time ago (2 years or so) -- worked for me. Don't know how it behaves now. Please note that IDE may save some config files at any time (not just after making changes in Settings or on Exit).
  • Symlink -- don't know (have not tried this myself). But in theory -- if you symlink root config folder (e.g. ~\.WebIde50\config) then it should do the job as long as target is on local system (not over network).
  • IntelliJ Configuration Server Plugin -- http://plugins.intellij.net/plugin/?webide&pluginId=4560

I use SugarSync and it works great. Sync only the config folder. I do it with 4 machines with almost zero issues.
