chrome extensions install but don't run on windows 8

Still stuck on Windows 8

The extension is installed. Or at least Chrome says it is.
I've created a debug configuration for my html file

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html>
<head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
    <title></title>

</head>
    <body>Hello</body>
</html>

I run debug. Chrome starts, thinks a while and then goes to the default search page.

Console says "Waiting for connection from JetBrains Chrome Extension ..."

Chrome extension is enabled and allow access to file urls is checked.

Any suggestions?

And what are you trying to debug here? I see no JavaScript (or PHP) at all.

I had js.
I gradually removed stuff until all I did was display a single word. I thought that would avoid confusion over whether the js was causing trouble. Standard debugging practice - strip things out until you have the simplest possible thing that reproduces the problem.

Same result with this standard page from w3schools.com

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<body>

<h1>My First Web Page</h1>

<p id="demo">My First Paragraph.</p>

<script>
    document.getElementById("demo").innerHTML="My First JavaScript";
</script>

</body>
</html>

I can display it fine in browser with a file reference. I can use web preview from webstorm. But live editing just sits there with "Waiting for connection ..."

To be clear, I'm using a Run/debug configuration of JavaScript Debug using Chrome browser, the referenced file and Chrome browser. I have show settings enabled.

I can be wrong here .. but AFAIK JB has single Chrome extension for JS Debug as well as for LiveEdit. Maybe worth checking this out: http://devnet.jetbrains.net/message/5470244#5470244 ? (same mentioned here: http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/WI-13213#comment=27-395952 )

No good. Tried turning stuff on and off with no effect. I have no idea what the port settings refer to - since they're not in the debug configuration options. I note at the end of the thread several people are saying it just doesn't work with 5.0.3 and win 7 64-bit

No idea what they are refrerring to -- works fine here on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 ENG.

What IP the domain is resolving to (ping domain.name.here) -- in case URL is not http://localhost/ -- something like http://myproject.dev/ or similar?

Now with webstorm 5.04 and extensions version 0.3.11 it "just worked" :)
