Can't launch PhpStorm 4 in Ubuntu 11.10

I just downloaded the new version 4 (117.257) to my 32 bit ubuntu machine and unpacked it to /usr/local. When I execute /usr/local/PhpStorm-117.257/bin/phpstorm.sh I get the following exception:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not find IDEA home path. Please make sure bin/idea.properties is present in the installation directory.

It is quite correct that there is no bin/idea.properties in my installation.
What to do?

Hi there,

yeah, it's supposed to be phpstorm.properties

See if you can fix it yourself (by editing that file a bit -- I'm not Linuex user so cannot help you here).

But in any case -- I would recommend submitting a ticket to Issue tracker: http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issues/WI

Thank you for your suggestion. I posted an issue at http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/WI-11029

I tried to copy the idea.properties file from an earlier version and that seemed to do the trick. It froze at the splash screen the first time, but now it's up and running.

I've seen the same thing happen and can reproduce it every time.

Im guessing your using konqueror?  and instead of un-packing the archive are just going into the archive and copying all the contents out of it.  This is what I normally do to unpack an archive but there is something weird that i have only ever seen happen on the PhpStorm archives where that single file does not get copied out with the others.

Here is the ticket:
http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-82813

The solution is to unpack the archive to the current directory, then move the directory.  the /bin/idea.properties  will be there.

I was extracting the file using krusader and that was the problem. Using tar -zxvf PhpStorm-4.0.1.tar.gz works as intended.
