Adding Files to Folders

Hello Friends

I am very new to WebStorm and all JetBrains.

Can somone please tell me how I can add files to a folder from within WebStorm ? In my project, I have a folder called [ images ] and I have a couple of images sat on my Desktop that I want to add to that folder.

How can I do it from within WebStorm ? When I right-click on the [ images ] folder, I get no option to add existing files ! :|

I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thank You.

Hi there,

Have you tried physically copying files into that folder? Copy from Desktop and Paste (in WebStorm, for example) while standing in that folder.

I have tried copying the files from within Windows Explorer, from one folder to another, and that works fine, the files show up in WebStorm (it updates itself).

But I do not want to do that, I want to do it all right from WebStorm, is that not possible ? This is such basic functionality that even Notepad++ has it ?:|

I'll be extremely surprised, and frankly disappointed if this was not present in the mighty WebStorm.

WebStorm works with Projects, which means physical files and folders -- it does not work with random collection of files.

You can create symbolic links to a files and folders in other locations using your OS functionality.

You can also add additional folders (that are above/outside of project root) in Settings | Directories | Add Content Root.

P.S.
Drag and Drop still works (for copying/moving files and folders inside one of the project's folders).

I understand that WebStorm works with Projects, but surely one should be able to add existing files to a project without the need to drag and drop or leave the program ! :O

I think the developers should definetly add this feature to the next update of WebStorm, it can't be that hard if the people at Notepad++ have done it (no disrespect meant of course).

Please bear in mind that something that seems essential for a person may just disappear from picure when you look at aggregated feedback from thousands.

Anyway, feel free to file a feature request into project tracker.

Very true. I seriously doubt that I'm the only one that would like this feature, especially sense it is so common in about every code editor out there.

Can you kindly point me towards to Issue Tracker, so that I can file the request.

Thank You :)

Well, I was trying to tell you that we see no demand in this feature.

And its missing from our (very mature) platform means we dont see it useful enough to implement.

Thank You Alexey. :)

I have gone ahead and created a request for it. Hopefully it would get a lot of vote ups, if not, then no harm done. ;)
