How to setup a simple project sync between sever and local machine, V 2.1

Since 2.1, I have had no luck in getting my server files to synch with or recognize my local files. I have used new project, exisiting project, all types of mapping shcemas, etc.with no luck.

Basically, if I download the public HTML to my local machine and attempt to map it, nothing happens. The icons show, bit there is no 'compare with local file' and these is no upload on a save with 'Auto upload changed files." checked. I have done this hundreds of times with all prior versions. In fact, I did it just 60 seconds ago with version 2.0.

If I wait for 2.1 to download the files from the server, I will eventually die of old age. 3.6 hours now for 48 mb, with no indication of progress (I believe its called a progress bar, PhpStorm does not implement this for some reason.) I have also used tis option with V 2.0 - it is slow, but it also works.

All I want is my files on the server to synch with my local files in V 2.1. Is there a wy to do this, and if so, is it documented (clearly).

I am also curious as to why this most basic of functions was broken in V 2.1.
