How to open new files in the same PHPStorm instance?

Hello!
When I open new files outside of PHPStorm, from explorer or total commander - it opens new instance of PHPStorm and loads that file. Why?
How can I make it open in the same window? If this is possible at all)

Thanks,
Igor!

I had asked the same question a couple of weeks ago:

But no reply yet :(

It is not supported as I understand. Read first comment there http://youtrack.jetbrains.net/issue/WI-1947

I bought JetBrains just a few weeks ago and get so frustrated with this issue.  As if it weren't lame enough that the file opening protocols aren't configurable, sometimes the new window that opens reloads the same files that are open for editing in already open windows.  So then you end up with something like "Window 1 contains File A.  Window 2 contains File A and File B.  Window 3 contains File A, File B, and File C".  So you have to actively juggle and close files that open in each new window.  I've gone through the settings dialog link by link looking for a way to configure this to no avail.

PRODUCT MGT TEAM... PLEASE NOTICE!

Developers should be able to specify their preferences for behavior like this.

1) well, you had trial period to see whether IDE fits your needs.. so please stop complaining and get constructive.
2) what version/build you're talking about?..
3) please elaborate on you use case - step by step on what are you doing to get that "A B C" state.

Alexey, thanks for your reply.  Exactly what isn't constructive about "Developers should be able to specify their preferences for behavior like this."?  Just because my post wasn't laced with clinical coolness doesn't mean that it doesn't contain constructive feedback.  I read your post at the link above where you stated:

1) Command line argument is a PROJECT only and file is equal to "Open or create PROJECT" in that folder.
2) We do not support opening individual files at all.

This, given the behavior I observe in my copy of the IDE, suggests a design decision that prevents me from opening files outside of a project's directory in the same window as other files which I'm working on and are in the project directory.  I am not asserting anything here that precludes me from possibly being mistaken so you won't hurt my feelings at all if you tell me I have the whole thing wrong.  If I'm mistaken, please tell me so.

I'm not trying to be inflamatory but a good product manager would have a keener ear turned toward the frustrations of his customers rather than criticize them for criticizing...

My version is 1.02
My build number is #PS-95.503

I will follow this post with a use case later since I have a meeting I have to start.  However the issue I have seems to be just what everyone else is talking about already.  Thanks for your effort and consideration in advance...

Please try 2.0 EAP, there was some fixes for commandline behavior.

And still, all JetBrains IDEs work with (entire) projects only, and this will not change.
