Linux JDK not found error

After downloading WebIDE/PhpStorm and sun-java6-jdk I attempted to run WebIDE/PhpStorm however I encountered the following error.

ERROR: cannot start WebIde.
No JDK found to run WebIde. Please validate either WEBIDE_JDK, JDK_HOME or JAVA_HOME points to valid JDK installation.

Does anyone know where it would be looking for those variables in my system? i.e. /bin

Thanks in advance.

usually it should be available on the PATH after installation and will be picked automatically.

try invoking:
java --version
(should work if installed properly)

Otherwise try to search your os forums or net, i.e
