Redesigning the forum

Will you be redesigning the forum any time soon? This is so much harder to read / scan / search than the previous forum to the point where it's almost unusable. It's difficult enough as it is to write a plugin without having a decent resource to find development information from. The old forum wasn't the prettiest thing I've ever seen, but I could search and find what I was looking for a lot easier. I'm also having a terrible time with the small fonts and bright white design I'm quickly getting eye fatigue just trying to read the topic lines.

Charlie,

To help with background and fonts, try viewing this forum with Firefox.

You can customize background colour and font size:

Preferences > Content > Colours

select background, Override the colours ... Always

The forum layout is going to be redesigned in the next a couple of months, JetBrains design team is now working on this task in order to address most of the issues we have now. We'll also improve the search soon integrating it with Google Search for better/more relevant search results.

Any update on this? Really need a better search to find anything. I've pretty much given up on my plugin after the forum changed. It used to be easy to find information. Now it's all mixed in with everything else.

@Charlie Sorry for delay. We hope to release an update in October. It'll feature Google Custom Search enabled, as well as many other features.

We have released the new layout for help center and community, it features both more clear search within specific topic (e.g. within IntelliJ IDEA Open API Forum), and Google Custom Search (called "advanced search" on the search results page). I hope it helps, please let us know if it's still inconvenient.

Thank you this is great! Glad to be able to refine my search to this particular forum now! :D

This is still very confusing - I can't figure out how to search just this forum. If I start from this forum homepage (https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/community/topics/200366979-IntelliJ-IDEA-Open-API-and-Plugin-Development) and search, I still see all the search results from the different forums mixed together. On the results page, I now see an "advanced search" link but when I click that I still see the search for the same query, with results from all the different forums. I can't see any way to enter advanced search terms - perhaps you can in the search box, but there's no indication of what those search terms might be.

Am I missing something obvious?

@Colin

Although it displays other, extraneous categories also (eg. Knowledge Base), it seems that at least the search results shown under the header "Community" will all be from the relevant sub-forum.

Test searching for "appcode" from the URL you posted. You should only see a few results under Community, while surely there are many more hits that would have appeared from the other forums. (If it works properly, you should also have a filtering parameter of "topic=200366979" within the URL of the results page.)

That doesn't seem to be the case for my query, at least. I wanted to search for "disable plugin update" while researching my question here: https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/205407650-Disabling-plugin-updates. I know there's been a previous post about this. It does actually appear under the Community section but there are definitely a ton of results that are not (485 in total).

Even if that were true, it's an awful UI and should be fixed.
