Commit message line wrapping confussion

Answered

I enabled "Commit message right margin" at 72 and "Wrap when typing reaches right margin" under Setting | Version Control and while I can see how the lines are wrapped once I reach the right margin I can't see exactly what intellij is doing to help me keep the "72" chars line-limit convention. I write a line and it seems to be wrapped way before the 72 characters even if the next word can fit the current line without violating the convention. Lines with more than 72 characters don't seem to be 'wrapped' using git log or gitk so I'm kind of confused. Do I have to do something else besides enabling those options?

I didn't say it was quite a bug.. just not sure how it's supposed to work. How is it supposed to work?

According to official doc https://www.jetbrains.com/help/idea/2016.2/version-control.html

Select the Wrap when typing reaches right margin option if you want the text to be transferred to the next line when the maximum number of characters has been reached.

So enabling this option should split comment in several lines, which sometimes does not happen, or line is split way before the limit is reached. Looks like incorrect behaviour for me.

It doesn't let me post issues. It says I don't have product licenses associated with my account. I found the issue on android studio 2.1.2 btw, not sure if there is a page specific to that one (and anyways it seems you can reproduce it on your end). Can you create the issue instead?
