Project Tool Window keeps closing; tree collapsed when re-opened

While I found an old post (circa 2010) that seemed to relate to this issue, as well as imply that it's been 'fixed', I've been getting very frustrated with my project tool window closing, and the directory structure collapsing. I have to re-open folders I had open every time this happens, and it is VERY annoying and causes problems with my workflow.

I've followed the advice and adjusted the registry settings to expand the timeout. I'm hoping that will do the trick, but this is behavior that I did not experience with previous versions of the software.

Hi there,

What's your IDE version exactly (including build number)?

Accordingly to https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-152049 it is fixed for 2016.3 -- you can try EAP build now if so desired: https://blog.jetbrains.com/phpstorm/2016/09/phpstorm-2016-3-early-access-program-started/

This is happening for me all the time in 2016.3.2. I don't think it happened in 2016.3.1, but I could be wrong. I know the problem is very recent.

I'm on Windows 10.

Using the terminal to run build commands is collapsing my project files.  Typically I have the project window set to display project files.

Unsure if this is a factor; my build script builds to a directory that is in the project but is marked excluded.

I have the same issue - running the latest version

RubyMine 2017.2.4
Build #RM-172.4155.44, built on September 27, 2017
Licensed to *******
Subscription is active until May 16, 2018

JVM: OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM by JetBrains s.r.o
Mac OS X 10.13.1

And each time I run a command from terminal (bundle, rake, etc.) it collapses all project files - then I have to re-open all files every time... very very frustrating!

We haven't heard about this issue for a while. Does it act this way with all custom plugins disabled (Preferences | Plugins > Show: Custom)?

@Paul, did you try my suggestion above?

Thank you for your response.  I don't have any custom plugins installed.  Going to settings > Plugins and selecting custom shows a empty window.  I recently uninstalled and reinstalled completely to see if that fix it.  So I'm working with a base install of RubyMine.

Some more information:  I'm running on Ubuntu 16.04, I installed RubyMine using the JetBrains Toolbox.  I'm using rbenv to manage my ruby versions.  If I'm running the rails app on localhost:3000 every time I refresh the page in the browser then touch the RubyMine window the folders all collapse.

Also it doesn't seem to do it in the "Project" layout only when in the "Rails" layout.  All of this is in the Project window.

That is the reason, please vote here: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-98462

Has there been any resolution on this? This is super annoying. For example if I generate a new model in the shell my project will collapse in the Rails project window. I also think this only started for me with the latest update (2019.2).

Yes, this was fixed, see the link above.

The problem might be ruby/rails specific, similar to https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/RUBY-24692. I would suggest to troubleshoot it with a corresponding team. In IDE invoke Help > Contact Support.
