WebStorm 2016.2 hangs after update

I updated WebStorm from 2016.2 pre-release to 2016.2, and it wouldn't start up. First, the splash screen came up, the yellow progress bar went all the way to the end, and stopped forever. I removed %USER_PROFILE%\.Webstorm2016.2 drectory. Webstorm *did* start, asked me for settings and offered to open or create new project. Either way, it flashed "loading the project" popup and dies.

Not sure what else I can try, other than reinstalling...

almost the same story here. Splash screen comes up blank, with internal jetbrains JRE, JRE installed via webupd8 repository, and with ubuntu offical repositorys JRE. No logs, no errors, just a blank splashwindow after asking if it had to import the settings.

I reinstalled, and it's working now. My thought was, I deleted the settings anyway, so reinstalling is not that much more. By the way, the downloaded version was 2016.2.2 - not 2016.2 like the update. Don't know if it matters...
