Can't post this review of their AI to the plugin review section itself because it wont' let me so thought I'd put it here.
Like everyone else I really want JB to integrate this brilliantly with the IDE. So far it's a total failure.
Just to give a little taste of how little apparent integration with the IDE has gone on behind the scenes, I asked it about a configuration menu which IJ does in fact have and this AI told me it doesn't exist and there's no way to configure the feature. Then I asked ChatGPT 4o and it answered me correctly. So I went back to IJ's AI and suggested to it what ChatGPT had told me and it immediately corrected itself. That's just the smallest taste of what is going wrong and how this AI is underperforming.
Even add-ons, in their own store, offer more exciting features (to be sure, haven't tried them so who knows if any of it those plugins can deliver) like, oh I don't know, knowing your code base. That's the killer feature (for me) ..an AI that knows my codebase like I do.
Below that level of achievement, which I know is so demanding it might not be possible any time soon, (since it likely would require there be a fine tuned version of ChatGPT FOR EACH OF US LOL.... ) .how can it not know JB's own tools like the back of its hand?
How can it not see the IDE ? Or config dialogs?
That would be the first area I would working on. It can't see the Project View so I end up copying and pasting and explaining and re-explaining to the AI what the configuration of my project is. That seems to me to be JB's own backyard and the type of integration that they should be delivering on first, not least of all so their AI is a must-have for their own product and customers.
As it is, as of today, Friday August 22, 2024, ChatGPT 4o outperforms JB AI hands-down, no question, every time. I just never use it. I do pay for it because I want to throw money at JB to encourage them and fund the dev. effort but after this year if it's not a lot better I will stop doing even that.
I feel like this shocking underperformance especially on this, AI, in this context- helping your paying customers do their job, is part and parcel of a general decline in JB who was always, I mean for decades, the best of the best, a company which seemed to understand what their customers wanted and needed and had the capacity to deliver.
Now they're on about their new UI, which a lot of their customers just hate, and all sorts of other things like synthetic biology and other things...like they're trying to become (and they're starting to act like ) an institution rather than a company. Don't know. Don't know what's gone wrong, but it's something.
