PyCharm Community Edition: Usage and Installation in University Laboratories

Hi,

I work at a teaching university and have a question about installing the PyCharm Community Edition.

Can this version be installed on the computers in a laboratory for student use during classes, or is this version not permitted for use in laboratories of educational institutions?

Hello Daniel,
You can use the Community edition for educational purposes. Perhaps you can also apply for educational licenses; please check our FAQ: https://www.jetbrains.com/community/education/#students/faq

Yes, PyCharm Community Edition can be installed on computers in university laboratories for student use. The Community Edition is free and open-source, and its licensing allows for educational use, including installation on DG ME multiple computers in labs. It’s a good option for teaching programming in Python without incurring costs.

I understand that the Community edition can be used for educational purposes, that is clear. What I need to know is whether I can install this Community version on all the lab computers for student use. Does the Community edition require any license request for use in a lab setting?
