Indenting Code

Answered

This is a bit embarrassing.  I cannot figure out how to indent code. Cmd Option L and Cmd Option R do not work. Neither does Cmd Option I. Apparently these were old ways of indenting that no longer work on a Mac. It is bonkers that Cmd ] and Cmd [ is not the way to indent code.

How do you do it?

Ok. I was able to replace the key mapping for indenting with the much more sensible cmd ] and cmd [

I have no idea what the arrow with the vertical bar is. It is not the return key.

Hello,

I suppose it's a “Tab” key.

I couldn't get the tab key to work on my macAir.

Could you please clarify a bit? Do you mean that there is no reaction on “Tab” key?

Could you please  check if key is detected in Settings | Keymap - Find action by shortcut :

Using the tab key didn't indent my selected text. I don't remember if it deleted it or just didn't do anything. I don't care about it any  more. The “]” and “[” key remapping works fine and are what I've been using on my Mac to indent code for the last 30 years. The actions they replaced had something to do with directories that I don't believe I've ever done with key commands.
