Intellij IDEA quality degradation

IntelliJ IDEA was a great IDE 5–10 years ago. However, today I find myself thinking that I'm tired of its constant degradation with each new version (unfortunately, I can't find any good alternative). In my team of six people, we all use different versions: some stopped updating two years ago, some a year ago, while I try to stay up to date and struggle more than the others.

Perhaps you could take some time to stabilize the project instead of releasing new versions that (I bet) come with a lot of new bugs? I don't even want to list specific problems here—just check your bug tracking system. There are many critical issues that have been stuck in the "in progress" state for months!

I totally agree!  I was a big fan of Intellij and my entire team of ~12 developers use it but of late I have been extremely disappointed with the quality.   Most of my developers are afraid to upgrade as the quality seems to get worse with every new release.   Unfortunately, it is too much work to switch to another IDE at this time but will definitely consider switching in the future if quality does not improve.

I could not agree more, it's inacceptable. Do a feature freeze and make the IDE stable, then excuse to your customers.

Thats nonsense, every update its getting worse and worse to the point that rebooting your pc involce atleast 30 minutes of trying to ffing boot phpstorm. 

You keep adding new features but neglect fixing the old. 

I really don't want to switch to VsCode but this last year was really really painful

We have fixed a few major bugs in the last releases and also a lot of fixes included in the latest version 2025.3 EAP. You are welcome to install it side by side and check if the problems go away.

Please clarify which version of IntelliJ IDEA you are using? If not the latest release version 2025.2.5, please try to update it (in the latest versions was fixed some problems with Inlay Hints and code alignment).
Did this problem occur after pasting this code fragment from another file or after typing the code manually? Does calling Code | Reformat Code help?
