AI Assistant credits cosumption even when not in use
This past Friday, my AI Assistant showed 1.37 / 10.00 credits remaining. I put my Mac to sleep and didn’t use it all weekend. When I returned today (Monday), it showed 0 credits left, meaning my remaining credits were somehow used while my Mac was asleep.
On 10/8/2025, I had around 3.6 / 10.0 credits left after just two prompts (without codebase context). Since then, I’ve turned off every AI Assistant feature (cloud completion suggestions, name suggestions, title generation, GitHub plugin, etc.) to mitigate further credit usage. I’ve also never used Junie. My last AI chat was on 10/8/2025, nearly two weeks ago, yet between Oct. 8 and Oct. 17, about 2.23 credits disappeared.
There’s clearly something wrong with how the AI Assistant credits are being consumed. Many users have reported the same issues since the recent updates, but JetBrains’ responses have been dismissive, pointing to the article about plan changes as if that justifies or even explains the ridiculous consumption. I'm on the Pro plan, but I've read several threads from Ultimate plan users dealing with same issues, so please don't tell us to upgrade when the same problems persist.
The recent updates feel misleading at best, or a scam at worst. The value proposition is poor compared to free AI tools, and the lack of transparency around credit consumption is unacceptable.
We need clear, itemized transparency, like a detailed log showing which actions consume credits and by how much. Without that, we can’t be expected to trust or effectively manage usage.

Hello. Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback — I completely understand your concern and frustration about the unexpected credit consumption. We certainly don’t want our users to feel that credits are being used without explanation or control.
To clarify, the AI Assistant credits are only consumed when AI-powered actions are actually invoked (for example, when using the chat, code completion from the AI Assistant, or context-based explanations). The Assistant shouldn’t be consuming credits when the IDE is idle or when your Mac is asleep, so what you’re describing doesn’t sound expected.
We’d like to investigate this further to understand what happened in your case. Could you please submit a support request here: https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=66731&product=ai_assistant and provide our team with your AI Pro License ID, so we can investigate the quota consumption logs for you?
We also agree that more transparency around credit consumption would be valuable. Our team is already discussing improvements, including the addition of the quota usage reports. Here's the link to the public feature request: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/LLM-19959. Feel free to upvote the article – it helps our team prioritize future developments.
Thank you again for raising this. Your feedback directly helps us make the AI Assistant more reliable and transparent for everyone.
@Racing Limits Do you see vendors always telling consumers to upgrade their software/apps but in reality it is not much different from the previous version? I mean what consumers actually use.
Same here. I use both Cursor and PHPStorm. In PHPStorm I just commit changes using AI commit-messages and don't do anything else (aside of one day tinkering around a bit), still, my credits are gone.. Very strange if that consumes all the credits from AI Pro. I use Cursor very heavily with a lot of context and don't have any issues with credits at that company. If I were Jetbrains I'd be scared people running away because of this and quadruple check if there's really no leaking of credits. Cursor is now my go-to because agents are/were? better, but if Jebrains products offer similar or better implementation of agents, I'm happy to stick with that. Most people don't bother complaining here and just use another product if there credits are gone that fast I think.
Well, now you don't have to worry about it since they've made it so you can no longer see how many credits you have.
