EAP is closed now - first RC released. What about Trial For EAP AI licences? Will it be valid on new EAP builds?

Answered

Hi,

EAP is closed and RC  version is released. Can I ask:

- When should we expect new EAP start?

- When new EAP started - will I be able to use my existing Trial For EAP AI license (still not expired yet)? Trial for EAP can't be used on RC build, will it be possible to use on new EAP after it starts?

My license is valid through May 31, will it be valid for new EAP builds (I guess - 2026.2  line?). My licence is still valid with latest Beta build, but not with RC build. Will it be valid with next EAP line (if not expired)?

Hello Emsoft1

Thanks for your interest in the EAP program. There isn't yet a specific schedule for the new EAP release. However, to know when a new EAP starts, you could check IntelliJ IDEA EAP page, and social channels.

Regarding the AI trial, this is tied to the EAP version, and it's available period. Once the EAP ends, the trial ends as well. Anyway, once a major EAP is released, you can request a trial license for the AI Assistant, valid for 90 days or until the program finishes, whichever comes first.

The AI trial license is tied to the major version (e.g., the “2027.x” line) and to EAP builds of that line, not to any RC, or future EAP line.

I hope this solves the doubts. Have a good day!!

Hi,

Thanks for response. Please confirm: next EAP line will allow to request trial again for Jetbrains AI with the same rules? Or, that's not confirmed yet?

Hi Emsoft1

By now, the rules are the same for the next EAP line, 2027.x, and you'll be able to apply again for the AI trial license. Also, it'll be better to take a look at the rules a bit before the line goes out, so you're sure they're still the same.

Have a great day!

Hi,

That license - 3 months AI Trial for EAP - is it actually mentioned anywhere on your website or blog? There were 2 different trials for AI: 1 month AI trial and 3 months AI Trial for EAP. First one applies to any version.

Hi Emsoft1

The trial license is available starting with version 2024.2.1. Please check the List of IDE license types eligible for a trial section for more details.

From 2025.1 and later, after the trial period, Free AI is available. You can find more information about the AI trial license at the Pricing and Plans FAQ.

Regarding the trial period for EAP versions, there's no specification in the documentation, as the period may change depending on the EAP release and internal reviews.

Hi, AI trial for EAP has been offered for me again on new recent EAP, but after click Start Trial, I got “Trial not allowed”.

I'm confused - if not allowed, why is it offered? If trial still exist, why it says it's not allowed? It was allowed on previous EAP, why not allowed now, what should I do to be allowed again?

Hi there,

Thanks for contacting JetBrains Support.

The "Trial not allowed" error commonly occurs if the trial has already been used for the current major version, if your current license is not eligible, or if the latest JetBrains AI Terms of Service have not been accepted.

To resolve this, please ensure you are logged into the correct JetBrains Account in your IDE, and visit https://account.jetbrains.com/ to accept any pending JetBrains AI Terms of Service. Also, confirm that your EAP license is active and valid for the current build.

For more details on AI Assistant trial eligibility, please refer to our documentation on JetBrains AI subscription. You can also follow existing issues related to activation problems on YouTrack: LLM-1679 and LLM-13524.

If the issue persists after these steps, please reproduce the error and then collect your IDE logs via Help | Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data and attach the zip here for further review.

Hi,

There's nothing to accept (or not accept) after login, there's no any prompt. EAP does not need any license, it only needs to be logged.

Debug log actually says the same as gui:

My ip is shared, as well as my PC - but every user owns separate system account.

Added: tried with fresh installation on my friend Windows PC and still not allowed.

Have you set any regional restrictions?

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. Would you be able to share your License ID or email address related to the account where you're trying to start the trial? Additionally, if possible, please include the full logs. You may upload them here: JetBrains Uploads (https://uploads.jetbrains.com/) and share the upload ID with us so that we can take a look.

Best regards,
Leonardo

Hi,

There's no any license id for eap ide, which license id you mean? EAP build works without any license, as long as not expired.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. It is correct that the EAP IDE itself doesn’t need a license key. However, the AI EAP trial uses a separate AI trial license that’s tied to your JetBrains Account on our servers, and for each major version, an account can only get this trial once.

The “Trial not allowed” message means our backend considers your account not eligible for another AI EAP trial for this version, even if the UI still shows the “Start Trial” button. To check this on our side, could you please confirm the email of the JetBrains Account you’re logged into in the IDE, upload the full IDE logs via https://uploads.jetbrains.com/, and share the upload ID with us?

Best regards,
Leonardo

Hi,

As stated here: https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/36218231085842-Cannot-start-AI-trial some other users report similar issue: trial not allowed. Please clarify: is it not allowed for all currently (new trials registration is actually disabled), or some kind of per account limitations? If disabled: do you plan to enable it again in the future before current eap line ends?

I will collect logs later - I'm going to try to activate trial again and collect fresh logs.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. I checked in with the team and, at the moment, it’s not a bug with your account. For the current 2026.2 EAP line, the backend is no longer issuing new “AI Trial for EAP” licenses, so “Trial not allowed” means new EAP AI trials are currently disabled on our side, even if the button is still shown in the IDE.

We don’t have an ETA or a confirmed plan to re‑open EAP‑specific AI trials for this EAP line; if we run a new EAP AI trial campaign, it will be announced on the usual IntelliJ IDEA EAP / release channels. The YouTrack link I mentioned is an internal design document for how these EAP AI trials work, which is why you can’t open it from your account. The EAP AI license program ended on June 1st, 2026, and for the moment, there is no ETA on when it will reopen.

Best regards,
Leonardo
