This issue can occur for different reasons.
Please try updating your graphics card driver first, as there is a similar report describing the same problem (IDEA-168893).
You can also try switching the JDK used for your project to a different one via File → Project Structure → SDK.
If neither of these helps, please provide more details about the issue:
1. Which build system is used for your Java application: Maven, Gradle, or IntelliJ IDEA (JPS)?
2. Collect the IDE logs (Help → Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data) after reproducing the issue and upload them securely to our server https://uploads.jetbrains.com/ (make sure to share the id of the upload here so that I can find it).
