Open in Browser puts 'public' in path

I am working on a Laravel project and my index.php is in the 'public' folder of my project. My FontAwesome fonts are also in this folder (in a fonts/vendor/fontawesome subdirectory). The urls to access the fonts do not include mention of the public folder and hence return 404 errors.

I should be able to set some form of root when I open in the browser so  'public' is not contained in the url. How do I do this? Or do I need to set up some other form of server for development/testing?

You just need to set the deployment configuration to process the public directory and not the whole project.
That would obviously lead to the fact that only public contents will be uploaded/downloaded.
If you need certain instructions, please tell which deployment configuration type exactly you're using.
