Debugger is very slow

I've used several other Jetbrains products (pycharm and webstorm), but the debugger for Rubymine has always been MUCH slower then the rest. Almost to the point of being unusable. I've ran it on several projects of varying sizes but it's still pretty slow even for small projects. Is there anything I can do to improve performance?
