Indexing a large project takes 3-4 minutes

I have a project that takes about 3-4 minutes to index every time I open it. The project directory and subdirectories have a total of 81,000 files.
Any suggestions to improve performance? I'm using Community 2018.1.5 with most plugins disabled except for Illuminated Cloud (Salesforce development), running on a Mac with 8 GB RAM, OS X 10.13.5
