Installation location/File Hierarchy Standard

Note: I'm what I would consider an advanced consumer who just recently began studying to leave my career and start a new one in IT. I'm interested in the network admin/sysadmin fields

I just installed PyCharm via snap on Ubuntu. I noticed on the install txt file it mentions installing in /opt/ to comply with filesystem hierarchy standards...

1. Do I need to bother?

2. Will it be useful if I just start learning/following FHS while I'm learning linux?
