Having what sounds like a similar issue here.  It seems like since the 2018.2 update, pycharm hangs and freezes frequently.  This is on a large django based product on a Mac Book Pro 13 inch With Touch Bar.

I'm also experiencing this issue with a Django project in IntelliJ IDEA 2018.2 using the Python plugin. Actions that used to be lightning-fast (copying code, navigating to declarations, deleting lines, etc.) are now often taking 15-20 seconds.

I'm running macOS 10.13.6 on a 15" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. Here are my IntelliJ deets:

IntelliJ IDEA 2018.2 (Ultimate Edition)
Build #IU-182.3684.101, built on July 24, 2018
JRE: 1.8.0_152-release-1248-b8 x86_64
JVM: OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM by JetBrains s.r.o
macOS 10.13.6

I enabled CPU Usage Profiling, ran it while the issue was occurring, and opened the .snapshot in YourKit. I'll submit the snapshot to JetBrains; here are two of the CPU usage hot spots it revealed:

com.jetbrains.django.model.viewManagemenet.ViewManagementFacade.getTemplateReferences(PyElement, String, Class, TypeEvalContext) ViewManagementFacade.java

com.jetbrains.django.model.DjangoModel.getAppNameByModelClass(PyClass) DjangoModel.java

Filed a bug report: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-196771 (logs and thread dumps submitted privately). It may end up getting refiled under the PyCharm project...we'll see.

I'm experiencing the similar issue even when I run small scripts, sometimes Pycharm professional 2018.2.1 is not responding after it was opened. The machine is an iMac 21.5 with high sierra.

OMG this just started happening to me! Luckily force quit and restart worked!

@Nickmthompson

Is there a specific pattern which leads to hanging or is it random?

If there is a pattern, please let me know the steps for reproducing.

Please also upload your renamed logs folder zipped from Help | Compress Logs and Show in... to https://uploads.services.jetbrains.com/ and let me know the name of the file.

Hello,

@Sergey-Karpov I have been having the hanging problem all the time today, crashed like 6 times or more. I'm only using the Jupyter plugin. I have upload my logs, the file is called pycharm-logs-20191004-174058.zip.

I have also uploaded the jupyter notebook in case that it helps you:

hipotesis.ipynb (741 kb) 100%
Train_SU63ISt.csv (478 kb) 100%
Test_0qrQsBZ.csv (120 kb) 100%

I have a macOs Mojave Version 10.14.6 (MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports), 3,1 GHz Intel Core i5, 16GB of RAM).
