PyCharm crashing graphics card?
Answered
I have a quadro p4000 graphics card running on a windows 10 system, and I'm currently using pycharm community 2017.3.3.
I have had a few instances where my screens black out and the display does not come back on. The screens go to sleep because they are no longer receiving a signal which makes me think something has caused the graphics card to crash... The only thing I can do to fix it is to force shut down my computer and reboot... and I really don't like doing it like that...
About the only thing I have running at the time is pycharm and maybe an internet browser. Is pycharm causing the crash, or how can I determine if it is? Is there a setting somewhere I could change to prevent it?

Hello.
PyCharm does not contact hardware directly since it is user-mode application and it does not use any Windows API to manage screens. I suggest to check your event logs for errors.
Thank you for the info - just trying to eliminate all the potential issues... Next time it happens I'll try looking at the event log. Any idea what I should be looking for?
Administrative events and System logs may contain some information.

Be sure to install latest graphic card drivers and all windows updates.
thank you!
Hi,
It happens the very same issue, the screen stop and I have to force a reset of my laptop even after having installed the latest Open CL driver:
I have this issue also. Ubuntu-based KDE neon with proprietary Nvidia drivers. When viewing the code and Jupyter Notebook side by side, making a change on in code can result in a crash that kills the whole session (I end up logged out).
I also suspect this is related to the rendering of the Jupyter Notebook panel, because it sometimes goes blank and irresponsive.
Using PyCharm Pro 2021.2.1
