WebStorm IDE Constantly Freezing (cannot get any work done :( )

I've been using WebStorm, trouble free, for years and love it! I recently installed the latest version of WebStorm (2018.2.4) and my IDE constantly freezes up when I do a variety of tasks. I'll be typing some code and it will lock up. I'll be selecting an area to copy and it will freeze up. I will try to copy and paste and it won't. In addition to installing the latest version of WebStorm, I'm also working on a 'new' (not new new, but new to me) project - which could somehow also be the cause.

I've scoured the web and can find no solution that works for me. I tried excluding the ng-modules directories in my project, thinking that perhaps indexing was causing the problem. That seemed to work at first, but that is a bit problematic as I missed out on things like type ahead. I've tried Power Save mode, and that too seemed to help a bit, but that too has its issues.

Is there some simple solution to my problem? Please Help. As it stands, I'm going to have to move to a different IDE.

Environment: Mac, macOS Mojave 10.14

Project specifics: Angular 6, Yarn

Unfortunately not that simple for my coworkers, they would get freeze soon after install and gave up after a few days.

I have started getting the same issues recently. I have excluded everything except the "src" folder, and "node_modules", but I still get regular freezes. Sometimes I have to kill it from the command line. I have an i7 MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM, so it really shouldn't be a performance issue.

After updating webstorm to WebStorm 2021.1, IDE freezes occasionally.

For me, the December 2024 versions were very slow, and every save made the IDE unresponsive — on macOS with the M1 Pro Chip.

I tried every solution mentioned in other threads, but it seems not to work.

I decided to downgrade to the version that seemed to work fine with my project before, and it began working well for me.

Specifically, the versions 2024.3.1, 2024.2.1, and 2024.1.7 were laggy.

Reverting to 2024.3.8 was a safe ground.

Would it be possible to collect the log files from 2024.3.1 as the initial troubleshooting step and share them within a support ticket? These can be collected with the Help > Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data menu action.
