What to buy MacBook Pro 2018 13inch inch i5 or i7

Hello,

At the moment I am working on a:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015)
2,7 GHz Intel Core i5
8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris Graphics 6100 1536 MB

What to buy for phpstorm?

2.3GHz quad‑core 8th‑generation Intel Core i5 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655
16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 memory
512GB SSD storage

or

2.7GHz quad‑core 8th‑generation Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz
Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655
16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 memory
512GB SSD storage

The 15 inch is not an option for me, cause I am in love with the portability of the 13 inch.

Thanks for the help

Well hopefully you will see the reason you haven't received advice from anyone is because what model you need depends less on PhpStorm and more on everything else. What do you actually use your machine for? What bottlenecks are you having with your current machine? If it's CPU-bound, then a quad-core i5 processor is out of the question.

PhpStorm will run fine even on a MacBook Pro with a dual-core processor. Whether or not it actually performs well on any machine is entirely dependent on the size of your project(s), what plugins you have installed and any other apps you have running on your system at the same time. We've known PhpStorm crawl to a halt on a quad-core 15-inch MacBook Pro with very little else running in the background all because of the size of the project we have open. And in those circumstances, no quad-core MacBook Pro will help with that.

No disrespect to the IntelliJ and PhpStorm team, but we all know Java is an inherently slow platform and hardly the best choice for building highly-optimised pro software. Given what PhpStorm does, it's surprising enough that it runs well on a dual-core system at all.

If your project isn't crazy large, PhpStorm will run just fine for you on most pro Macs.
