Configurable Scala type-aware highlighting ?

We have a project that uses a very type-driven API, such that it would be very helpful to be able to configure IntelliJ to highlight certain types in a specific way.  To be clear, I am talking not about syntactic or semantic highlighting, or even highlighting of errors based on type mismatch (which is all great) but rather - assuming the code type-checks properly - highlighting of symbols based on their resolved type.  For example, I'd like to be able to say that if a given symbol has a type that is <: type Foo, I want it italic blue, while anything <: Bar is bold green, etc.  I can imagine this kind of feature would be really useful in a lot of heavily type-driven APIs, and it of course would need to be configured to be very project-specific.

Is there any way to do this with a plugin or "library extension"?
