Pycharm-community cannot launch

Answered

I am running a Unbuntu 16.04 + JDK build 1.8.0. After installing `pycharm` through `snap` as shown below, I want to enter pycharm, but failed and not see the GUI launched, with the warning message shown below and the program is stuck there.  Any clue?

- I previously can work with Pycharm-community without a problem, but only recently not able to use it. (I did not manually update pycharm)
- I tried using another account to log in this Ubuntu server, and can launch Pycharm. It shows same warning messages.

Hi, please try to remove the snap installation of PyCharm and re-install from here: https://www.jetbrains.com/pycharm/download

Let me know if the issues is still reproduced.

Hi Andrey for the feedback,

I tried to reinstall with the *.tar.gz file downloaded from the link you provided before my post. The program also hanged there after the message shows below:

~$ cd ./pycharm-community-2019.1.1/bin

~/pycharm-community-2019.1.1/bin$ source ./pycharm.sh
dirname: invalid option -- 'b'
Try 'dirname --help' for more information.

based on the error message seems an permission issue, so I tried run the program with `sudo` and works! Any idea what is the caused and how can I run it with the regular permission?

Hi, try to change /home/sentinel/.cache permissions for your user with chmod. Not sure why it's not writable for sentinel user in the first place, but it should do the trick anyway.
