Changing IDE default directories used for config, plugins, and caches storage.

Hi,

I installed PyCharm on a non-default drive.

I then clicked on Edit Custom Properties in PyCharm and received a message that idea.properties doesn't exist on my C: drive.

So it seems that PyCharm did not pick up the fact that it was installed on another drive.

I then edited idea.properties in the installation directory and hoped that the contents in the system and config folders on the C: drive would be transferred to the

new directories, but this did not happen.

Is it safe to manually move the config and system directories to the new location and then delete the them from the C: drive?

It would be great if we had the option to change the default directories during installation instead of doing this manually.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

You can change the location of config and system directories using the following guide: Changing IDE default directories used for config, plugins, and caches storage – IDEs Support (IntelliJ Platform) | JetBrains

Then, you can safely delete unused directories.
