Open New Tabs At End

Hi

How do I make it so that tabs are always opened at the end? I've got the "Open New Tabs At End" option checked yet when I click on some files they seem to always get docked in some arbitrary position within the tab selector.

Its like the editor is remembering their last opened position in relation to other tabs even though they've been closed down. This affects tabs even when I close every tab down, and start reopening them again.

Any solution to this?

Hi there,

Your IDE version? Please show whole menu (where that option is located).

Right now I see this ticket which is not marked as "implemented" yet: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-89731

That option seem to work when invoking using other functionality (e.g. opening file from Project View panel or Navigate | XXX / Search).

Im opening files using the Project View panel. There are approximately 10 PHP files in a folder. I close all existing open files down so there are no tabs open. I open the files as listed one by one.

File 1 opens to Tab position 1
File 2 opens to Tab position 2
File 3 opens to Tab position 3
File 4 opens to Tab position 4
File 5 opens in between Tabs 1 and 2 (Should be Tab position 5)
File 6 opens to Tab position 6
File 7 opens between Tabs 3 and 4 (Should be Tab position 7)

I've tried invalidating caches and restarting which hasn't helped. None of the tabs are pinned. It only seems to affect specific files in the folder. I.e. I could open files 1, 2, 3, 4 in any combination of order and they will always open furthest to the right. As soon as I open file 5 it positions it in between the opened tabs, when it should be opening them to the right. This seems to affect all projects, not just specific projects.

Based on your description (some files open OK and some are not), I would not be able to help much here.

It's possible that some plugin affects this (opens related files next to each other) and I simply may not use that plugin myself etc. But would be good to see what those files are and how they are related.

I personally do not use that "at the end" option (it's not always convenient when you have single row and 7-8 tabs opened and they have long names). Plus, I do not really pay attention to where files are opened (usually next to the current one, which is fine in majority of cases to me). But I do remember quite few situations when recently closed (and maybe modified) file is opened in another place (e.g. few tabs to the left).

I'd say use "Submit a Request" link at the top to contact Support Team (you may wait a day or so -- JB staff may reply here as well; forums are just not a high priority).
