File editor tab look n feel in 2019.2 - No borders?

After updating PhpStorm and other IDE like IDEA to latest I lost editor tabs how they use to look before. They had clear gray color border to differentiate from each other but now they are gone. Please bring that back. I saw the latest release note saying they removed clutter etc but atleast make current tab more prominent in view so we can easily differentiate with other non-active tabs. making them them light to white doesn't look good.

I am using default light theme that comes from IDE.

Execpt tabs (I removed underline from active tab and colors between active and inactive tabs were also changed) also some settings were lost related to custom fotns settings. I attache 2 files to compare. There is a bit more differences including even a font style.

My own settings

After upgrade to 2019.2

Can this please be reverted, I am finding super hard to find which is active tab with just underline? Or atleast give options to users please. So is the title bar mess with such a long file path shown in that. This in no ways avoids cluttering.

Hi I just spent the last 30 minutes trying to restore the missing lines between the tabs as well. I find the current layout of the editor tabs very hard to work with.

Yes it's hard, when we don't see border we don't even know where they start & end. If we have to close a tab our eyes keep wandering to check X mark and confirm association with file. Most of us use browsers for testing and browsers like chrome/firefox/latest edge (chromium) all follow a clear separation of tabs. The current blue dark underline looks like website active menu than tab. So atleast provide us option to turn these things off. Same goes with lengthy file path shown in title bar (windows 10) it appears next to 'Help' menu and isn't necessary because when we hover tab we can see file path anyway. Or file path could be shown in bottom (status bar) or somewhere too and keep top menu section neat. If I want more area for opened files I should be able to hide path and even file menus from settings panel.

Under this, the first drop-down TabPlacement: Top

This is defaulted to `None` in version 2019.2

Any update on this? I found a way by enabling "ide.new.editor.tabs.vertical.borders" in registry of IDE

press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+/
select Registry
