PyCharm Synchronize closes all files OSX Catalina \ Synchronize broken

Issue: Synchronize button or automated action of Synchronize (currently turned of) will close all files and "windows".

The "windows" that are closed include all files open as well as panels ("windows") like the Project or Structure panes.

NO: I am not working on any networked files, all files are local.

NO: Docker is not involved (only for the database, Python/py files are all on local desktop and run in PIPENV VE)

I had to turn off all Synchronize in the app because it was unusable. The Synchronize operation was being triggered with any blur/focus cycle (change app via CMD+Tab for example).  Now a manual Synchronize (a feature I do want working) triggers the same action,

For example: If I have 5 files open and hit Synchronize they all close immediately.

What am I doing wrong? The software is unusable since installing on my new computer.

Note: I am on demo mode because I have not entered my registration info. I am a paid subscriber.  This should not matter of course.

What about symlinks? Are you using any in your project?

This issue sounds like something the support would like to look into, so feel free to submit a support ticket as well: (if you haven't already).

Be sure to provide logs with your request ([IDE logs](

Great point! Synlinks: no, never in projects.

Is "the support" not the same as this area?

This is a new incident as of the past 6-12 months.  I learned to disable all automatic updates if there is no problem with the version I am using.  So my declaration is a result of having my laptop crap out and getting a new one and installing current JB software.

I do want to underscore that my dev work is kept very simple - literally files on local drive with git and IDE.  I used PIPENV as the local env (where symlinks can occur) and that is located outside of the project.  No stash/branch changes correlate with this issue either.  My dev patterns are very stable with tooling, set up, and all the meta, so I am using the same small suite for my work.

Not exactly. This is not the best place to upload logs and manage ticket status (this is just a forum post). Submitting a support request have greater chances of resolving your issue in a shortest time.

By the way, does it help to disable "File | Settings | Appearance & Behavior | System Settings | Save files on frame deactivation" option?

I will escalate via given link.

"Save files on frame deactivation" is already deactivated. With that setting left on then my IDE was 100% unusable, no exaggeration as use of any other app would close all windows.

The problem (opinion) is rooted 100% on the sync feature either in a new build or in conjunction with Catalina.  Catalina is a hard update to work with, I understand that wholly.
