Cant type square bracket and pipe symbol when using xWin plugin on Macbook pro

I´ve used windows key binds my whole life, but recently my office changed our hardware to the MacBook pro. (which i love BTW) I installed the xWin plugin for my IDE, and all my key binds are almost the same as they were on my windows. But there is no way for me to make certain symbols, like for example square brackets and pipe symbols. I´ve tried searching the web for adding my own custom key binds in IntelliJ, but it seems like it only works for shortcuts to actions, and not to symbols.

All software is up to date.
