Aligning intellij diff view experience with commit view experience?

Hi,

The current intellij commit experience is awesome in that it shows me all of the files to be committed in the left pane and shows me the diffs within the editor itself, allowing me to make edits.  I'd love to be able to have a similar experience when comparing 2 branches within in intellij. 

Currently I've found that I can use the diff viewer to compare branches but this opens up a diff viewer window which comes with a different experience than the commit viewer.  Is there any way to compare branches using a similar experience to the commit viewer?
