Go back to the live template mode again after clicking out of it in the editor

Hi everyone,

my question is related to this question from 2016. I am trying to programatically bring back the live template mode where i can tab between variables i can fill in after already clicked out of it in the editor by typing in something else. Any ideas if its possible?
