Switcher with mouse selection: How to disable split view?

Answered

Hi,

I'm using the switcher a lot to navigate between my open files. I often open the switcher and then use my mouse to select a file. A recent update (2020.3?) changed that behavior: The mouse-selected file now opens in a split view. So I always need to close the "split copy" afterward.

I searched high and low for a way to disable that "switcher split view", with no luck. Where can I disable it? I'm using IntelliJ IDEA 2020.3.2 (Ultimate Edition), Build #IU-203.7148.57, built on January 26, 2021, on macOS 11.2.

Hello,

What shortcut do you use to open the switcher?

Is the behavior the same if you use the 'Recent Files' pop-up dialog (Meta+E)?

Where on the file name exactly are you clicking? Can you record a short screencast to demonstrate the problem?

Wonderful! You fixed my problem! Thank you!

My shortcut was [Alt]-[Tab]. I had to keep [Alt] pressed while selecting with the mouse. And [Alt]-clicking seems to open the split view now.

So I set the switcher shortcut to [Ctl]-[Tab]. And so now no more split views!
