Need settings to learn Java

Can you recommend settings for Java beginner. I know that IntelliJ Idea is a tool for professional developers and because of that its default settings tuned to maximize ones performance. I don't want to struggle with pop-ups I know nothing about, but also I wouldn't like to disable everything and work with it as simple Notepad
