Settings repository and multiple OS systems

I am using a settings repository to save the IDEA settings in both OS, macOS, and Windows. Until now, I haven't had any problem, but I was trying to use PowerShell instead of cmd, and now that settings are being shared in macOS too, generating an issue, because it doesn't exist in macOS. Is the settings repository thought to be shared between OS, or should I use a repo per OS?
