How to get the "Preview Diff" for local changes?

I have "Use non-modal commit interface" unchecked in the settings. For "Local Changes", toggling the "Preview Diff" button has no effect.
Interestingly, I have a nearly identical setup (Ubuntu 18.04, CLion 2021.1.2) where this preview is available. I have exported settings from that and imported to the current machine without any luck.

Jeevaka Dassanayake there is a chance that you've pulled Diff preview window to very right. Please locate your mouse on the right border of a toolwindow and see whether resize cursor appears and you can drag it to the left.
