Where Is IDEA Installed?

Answered

I installed the Toolbox for the first time since it was release in 2016 and almost immediately found issues.

It picked up my manually installed IDEA instances and gave the option to "Show in File Manager" which was good. However, it opened the parent directory and showed all 6 of my current installed versions which wasn't so good as I don't know which one it refers to.

I then installed a version from the toolbox and it doesn't have the "Show in File Manager" option so I have no IDEA :) where it was installed.

Why is there this discrepancy?

Why does it have a minimize AND a close button if the close button minimizes it and there is no option to make the close button actually close it?

Hi,

However, it opened the parent directory and showed all 6 of my current installed versions which wasn't so good as I don't know which one it refers to.

The one it refers to should be highlighted/selected when the file manager opens.

I then installed a version from the toolbox and it doesn't have the "Show in File Manager" option so I have no IDEA :) where it was installed.

You can check it under gear icon > Settings > Configuration > Install location. There's a 'Show...' button there that opens the file manager and highlights the relevant directory.

The user interface should be the same no matter how it was installed.

The toolbox also modified the shortcut on my desktop to point a toolbox version instead of the manually installed version that it previously pointed to.
