Python, docker and devcontainer not working

Hello,

I try to setup a simple python project in a docker devcontainer.

IntelliJ IDEA 2026.2.3; Docker version 29.8.1, build 4a63305, Linux Fedora 44

From the startup screen I open an empty folder als project. 

Then: New => Dev container config; Template: Python 3 / 3.14-trixie. Now I run the container “Create Dev container and mount sources” => The project is opened inside the container.

Next: File => Project Structure => Platform Settings => SDK: “+” => Add python SDK from disk.

Type: Virtualenv

Base Python = 3.14 (/usr/bin/python3.14) system

Location: /$devcontainer.ij/4efd7688386d@/IdeaProjects/test-intellij-python-docker/.venv (with green checkmark)

Press ok => Error appears:

If I choose $devcontainer.ij/xxxx@/usr/local/bin/python3.14 as Base python, I get an error as well:
