Do you have any slow/disconnected network shares? DVD drives that fail to open? Such 'black holes' can cause problems building the directory tree.

do you have your app located in WSL? Looks similar to https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-273398 that is fixed in 2021.3; fix will also be available in the 2021.2.1

No. I get the same result if I try to open any folder: the program freezes and does not allow me to select anything.

Same issue for me when I try to open new project in IntelliJ IDEA 2021.2

issue seems non solved in WebStorm 2021.2.3. I'm still unable to open some projects. I tried to:

- remove .idea from folders
- clean caches
- clone the source again
- reinstall Webstorm (via toolbox and also manually)

It's a main issue for a paid product

UPDATE: Invalidating the caches and restarting webstorm helped to fix it.
Where does the logs and diagnostic data get saved to? I'm facing the same issue on a macbook pro m1, when opening some projects in Webstorm, some other projects are working fine
