PyCharm no longer indicates unknown references (missing imports, mispelled names)

When I edit a file in my project, the red squiggly lines no longer appear if I have a name which lacks an import or is incorrectly spelled in the first place. Left-clicking+CTRL shows "Cannot find declaration to go to", so PyCharm should know that there is an issue. Invalidating the caches didn't work, as well a complete uninstall+reinstall. Deleting the .idea folder failed to help as well. I'm at a loss what I can do to fix that problem.

Hello,

Could you please check if the file is in the Reader mode? https://www.jetbrains.com/help/pycharm/reader-mode.html

Hi,

The file isn't in reader mode. But I think I found out the solution by accident. The venv environment I used was regenerated several times for testing and after PyCharm reindexed it, it suddenly worked again. Not sure what needs to happen in the venv to break the functionality in the first place, since I think I did the regenerations after it was already broken.
