Google App Engine - Deprecated?

PyCharm's GAE integration relies heavily on using appcfg.py file to run tasks. However, that method was getting deprecated in 2016 already (and it's also using the outdated Python2 runtime by default, which is also at EOL). Would we have any hope for an update to the integration? In the current implementation I'm pretty sure it does not work.
