Dataspell workspace

I don't see a section for DataSpell, so I guess this goes into a generic topic.

DataSpell seems to have a concept of a workspace, but I'm not seeing how to set up multiple workspaces.  I have more than one project that I'm working on & I would like to have separate setups for each of them.  It seems like that is what a workspace would be, but IRL, it seems like there is only one.   I can add different directories into that one, but I was hoping for something more like the project setup in the other IDE.

I also have multiple virtual envs for the different projects, but each workspace naturally one uses one, which is another reason to hope to be able to choose multiple workspaces.

Any enlightenment would be appreciated.

Thanks,  Beth

Hi, have you tried right-clicking in the project view and selecting "Attach directory"?

That works, but it isn't what I'm looking for.   I'm hoping to be able to have multiple workspaces, each with their own set of directories & environments.

Thanks,  Beth

I see DataLore in the Anaconda-Navigator, which would let me launch it for a particular VE from that UI.   Perhaps someday DataSpell will show up there?

Thanks,  Beth

The directory you attach is essentially another workspace. It appears in the settings under **Preferences | Project: <name> | Python Interpreter**, and you can select another interpreter/environment for it.

workspace can contain local notebooks and other files, attached directories, and attached projects. When you run Data Spell for the very first time, you begin your work with attaching a directory to the workspace. You can also start with connecting to a Jupyte.

Elizabeth Kirby Right now it's possible to tune environment for every attached directory: https://helpserver.labs.jb.gg/help/dataspell/2021.3/configuring-python-interpreter.html#change-env

The request to have multiple projects/workspeces is perfecty valid, please, track https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/DS-2106 for the progress.

Hi @...!

To remove the folder from the workspace, please, use *Detach Directory...* action from the context menu (no files will be deleted).

It's seems that it's impossible to physically delete the top level directory, so I've created a feature request for the matter: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/DS-3379

I also believe that the concept of projects and workspaces is totally frustrating in Dataspell right now.

The natural workflow in all IDEs is to create a separate project (we can call it workspace, but I see no reason) for each project in real life. I really cannot understand the current Bag-of-Projects design.

Looking forward for this to be solved https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/DS-2106
