Locking "Tab Order >> Sort tabs alphabetically"

Answered

I've noticed with a recent update that when I have tabs sorted alphabetically, it disables if I move a window tab to another tab group.

I see there's a toast notification in the lower right that allows me to click a quick "sort  alphabetically" link but this is pretty tedious with the way I use the IDE.

Can we get the old behavior back or at least another setting to lock "Tab Order" preferences regardless of how a tab is moved or where it is placed in the ordering?

Looks like this is https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-283610. It's fixed and the fix will be included in the next IDE update.

It's still not in the final release (Build #PS-221.5080.224, built on April 13, 2022)

It hasn't been planned for 2022.1, the fix was made on 15.04 when it was too late to include it in the stable release.
The fix will be available with 2022.2 EAP in mid-May.

Alphabetic ordering of tabs doesn't appear to be locked down on:

Hello Steve,

Do you get popup like this?:

Have you tried to select “Always keep sorting enabled”?

Oh, you mean the tiny little popup at the bottom right corner far, far away from where I accidentally dragged the file in the tab list?  :D

Yeah, now that I looked for it, saw it and selected the “Always keep…” option

Thanks for pointing it out!
