Menu items not appearing / not appearing consistently

Answered

Running 2022.1 Community Edition on Windows 10.

When I click on the e.g. File option at the top, no sub menu appears. As I move the mouse pointer over the other items the words highlight and, sometimes, the submenu appears, sometimes not. As I move over Edit, View, Navigate - nothing. Then I move back to View and I might see the dropdown menu. As I move left and right along the menu items I might see the dropdowns but I haven't been able to get File to appear recently.

Menu's seemed to work normally when I installed it last week so I don't know whether I changed some option. Inconsistency suggests I've triggered a bug. Any ideas how to fix this?

Hi,

Does it make a difference if you disable all non-bundled plugins and restart the IDE? File | Settings | Plugins | ⚙️ | Disable all downloaded plugins

Please attach the contents of your Help | About window.

Hi,

Disabling all downloaded plugins made no appreciable difference. I don't seem to have downloaded any plugins yet - they are all "bundled". Restarting my PC (not simply the application) seems to help for a while.

It's not just the mouse. Alt+H shows the help menu (VCS, Window and Help usually appear). Alt+F just highlights File - no menu. The File menu has appeared a couple of times now though.

Please collect a focusable component hierarchy dump as per this article (no need to collect JDK logs yet), and attach it here.

*Sigh* - problems assigning hotkey - may or may not be related. Finally bound the operation to Scroll Lock.

When the menu is enabled Scroll Lock doesn't work. Step 4 of the article "Once focus is lost..." - by what? to what? It's ambiguous so I've done the best I can.

Following non-appearance of File (sub)menu I press Escape (to get hotkeys back) and Scroll Lock (ScrLk). I get the following...

I've seen that 2022.1.1 has been released. I've installed that. Seems better so far. Thanks

psarah if you face a similar issue again please provide the idea.log, it's accessible via Find action (Ctrl+Shift+A or Shift+Shift and tab to Actions) > type "Show log in Explorer", Enter. Screen recording demonstrating the wrong menu behavior would help us a lot too. You can share files with us with uploads.jetbrains.com, just let us know the upload ID. Thank you!
