commit dialog vanished

In 2022.2.3, my commit dialog has vanished. I've looked up the basic ideas and applied them, but none worked:

 - wipe caches and restart

 - toggle the VCS non-modal option

When VCS non-modal is off, the modal dialog does not appear.

Anyone seen anything like this?

Hi Jonathan,

What shortcut do you use to open it?

Are you able to open/focus it via the main menu options Git | Commit.. and/or View | Tool Windows | Commit?

Is the issue reproducible with all downloaded plugins disabled and IDE restarted? Preferences | Plugins | ⚙ | Disable all downloaded plugins

The menu option does not cause the tab to appear. I tried disabling plugins and restarting. It was a good idea, but unfortunately it didn't work.

I do see a couple of NPEs in there and also a ClassFormatError, which is odd...

Is there a chance that you have External diff tool configured under File | Settings | Tools | Diff & Merge | External Diff Tools?
Would it be possible to disable it and try again?

 

Would it work in EAP version?

I checked. I don't have external diff enabled. I did find another one of these ClassFormatError exceptions. Could it be that the inability to load this class due to the UTF8 string might cause the commit ui to fail?

Please check if the clean IDE install from https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download/index.html resolved the problem.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing it with toolbox, but it failed. I will try that link.

When I download a fresh one and try to install it, I get this:

IntelliJ is not running. I tried it a second time after removing the app from Applications. No dice.

I rebooted my machine and it still won't install. Not sure what's going on. Ideas?

If anyone is wondering what happened, I had a (slightly) corrupted disk. After running Disk Doctor the problem went away!
