IDEA 2022.1.3 (Ultimate Edition) not showing variable values from Parent POM in .m2 folder

Answered

We have a maven project that is using a Maven library as a Parent.  The module is specified by the Parent tag and builds just fine, but when I hover over variables that are imported from the parent, they don't show any value in IDEA.

I could try and work around this by CTRL-clicking the parent in the pom.xml file, but that doesn't do anything.  To look up these values I have to navigate to the .m2 folder, manually find the parent POM file and look at the variable values in there which is less than ideal.

How can I get IDEA to actually show the values like Eclipse does?

I have answered in the support request. Will copy paste the answer below.

The IDE should be able to navigate to the parent from it's used in the the pom.xml file. How do you reference the parent? Doesn't navigation from pom.xml to its parent not work for you in IDE? Do you have this parent located in the local repository which is set to the same path as in Settings (Preferences on macOS) | Build, Execution, Deployment | Build Tools | Maven | Local repository.

Please try using the IDE version from https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download/ and re-importing the project (File | new | Project from Existing Sources action).
