Well, actually nothing has changed - it was working for normals strings/vars since 1.0 and it was never working in injections, see http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/WI-2377

That message looks like your installation got corrupted.Downloading a fresh copy and give it a try.

Manual injections are by definition temporary.The only way to have a persistent injection for a PHP string literal now is to use one of predefined "trigger patterns" - see Settings|Langiage Injecti...

Well this is normal PHP HEREDOC literal requirement http://www.php.net/manual/en/language.types.string.php#language.types.string.syntax.heredoc

There is no real difference between EAP and "Stable" version at current stage.Its just as good as 5.0.2 with fixes added, and 5.0.3 will contain couple more fixes and different artifact names.
